Bike Month

May is National Bike Month. Each May, Town staff organize events in partnership with the Town of Chapel Hill, advocacy organizations, and local bike shops, such as the Bike on Bus Workship, Community Bike Ride with the Mayor, and Bike Breakfast.

  • Shift Chapel Hill-Carrboro is a non-profit organization of local citizens dedicated to building a network of cyclists in the greater Carrboro/Chapel Hill region. It was created in 2025 from the merger of the Bicycle Alliance of Chapel Hill (BACH) and the Carrboro Bicycle Coalition (CBC).
  • ReCYCLEry NC, a non-profit based in Chapel Hill, accepts donated bicycles and offers workshops to teach community members bicycle repair and maintenance skills as they work towards earning their own bikes. Both children and adults can participate in these workshops.
  • Chapel Hill Transit and GoTriangle buses offer front bike racks with spaces for two bikes. Visit GoTriangle's Bikes on Buses to learn how to use the bus bike rack. There is also a demonstration station at the West Main Street at Carrboro Town Hall Eastbound bus stop for residents to practice using the bus bike rack.
