Damon Seils is the Town Council's liaison to the Town's Affordable Housing Advisory Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Greenways Commission. He is the Carrboro representative to the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization Board (on which he previously served as the chair), the Chapel Hill Transit Partners Committee, and the Chatham-Orange Workgroup. Before his election to the Town Council, he served as the chair of the Planning Board, as a member of the Greenways Commission, and as the chair of the Orange County Human Relations Commission. In his professional life, he works in the medical school at Duke University, where he is a communications specialist with a focus on the work of health services researchers who study the quality, costs, and ethics of health care delivery. Council Member Seils was also a longtime leader in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community at Duke, where he worked with students, employees, alumni/ae, and administrators to promote equity and inclusion for gender and sexual minority communities. A native of Texas, Council Member Seils grew up in Austin. He attended college and graduate school in Washington, DC, before moving to Carrboro.
