Volunteer Coaches and Program Staff Welcome.....
Many of our youth programs are dependent upon the participation of volunteers as team coaches and leaders. Anyone interested should complete a Volunteer Service Application. These forms are available at the Recreation and Parks offices, 100 North Greensboro Street and also on this web site.

Spectators Welcome...
Throughout the year, you are invited to visit any sports facility and enjoy the games in progress! Admission is free! It is not only a fun outing, it is also a way to get younger children interested in a sport. For more information on leagues and schedules, call 919-918-7364.

NOTE: The Adult League Player Contract (pdf.) form must be completed and returned to the Athletic Program Supervisor before you are eligible to participate in any adult league game.

    Youth Football

    Participants learn football skills, fundamentals, and techniques. Team practice 3-4 times per week and compete in league games with other area organizations. Practices begin August 1 and the season lasts through late October or early November. Weight limits exist for all teams. Birth Certificate due prior to first practice.

    Openings are accepted on a first come - first serve basis. Registration must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian.

    Fall Baseball

    Openings are accepted on a first come - first serve basis. Registration forms must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian.

    Season: late August (formation of teams) into mid October (completion of playing season - A, AA, AAA)

    All participants in fall baseball is asked to attend a team placement time. Please use this link to complete a Team Placement Request Form.

    Adult Ultimate Frisbee League

    This adult co-ed fall league plays on Monday & Wednesday events at Hank Anderson Community Park. Teams will play 1-2 games per week. League play begins in mid-August and continues through mid-November. League registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis until the league registration deadline (August 7) or when the league fills. Participants are drafted onto teams by volunteer team captains based on observation and a self-evaluation form completed by each participant. All registrations must be received no later than Friday, August 3 by 5:00pm.

    Fall Adult Co-Rec Softball League

    This adult co-ed league plays on Tuesday & Thursday evenings at Hank Anderson Community Park. Teams will play 1-2 games per week. Regular-season to be followed by a double-elimination tournament.

    A total of 6-10 teams will be accepted. Players participating on teams must be at least 16 years of age by August 1, 2012. Team Representatives must be at least 18 years of age. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. A $200 non-refundable deposit toward the registration fee is due at the time of registration.

    First Tee of the Triangle - Golf Clinics

    A four-week program designed to introduce young people to the game of golf. Mainly SNAG (Starting New At Golf) equipment will be used in teaching basic grip, alignment, and posture seamlessly with The Nine Core Values through fun and engaging activities.

    First Tee of the Triangle - CORE Program (8-week)

    C.L.A.S.S Soccer

    A class designed to introduce the fundamentals of soccer to the participant and parent. Instructor guides both the child and parent in understanding the skills of passing, dribbling, trapping, and shooting. Parent and child will be encouraged to practice the skills learned at home. Parent participation is a major part of this program.

    Volleyball Class

    Baseball Pitching Class

    Free Youth Disc Golf Clinic

    This free youth disc golf clinic gives participants the opportunity to learn about the sport of disc golf including rules, etiquette, the basics of throwing discs, and tips and techniques.     Anyone interested in learning tennis is welcome to this fun, focused, and game oriented class. Professional stroke instruction, understanding strategy, learning tennis movement, and applying mental awareness are taught as the building blocks for your steady improvement. Even if you have good tennis experience, you can benefit from the group and individual attention, game practice, and challenging practice drills. Please bring a racquet that is age/size appropriate. Some loaners will be temporarily available.

    Tennis Intermediates are players who have developed all of the basic skills and are able to rally and serve with consistency. Those who have completed the beginner class, yet still fall below the intermediate level, may join this class if you are ‘highly motivated’ to improve and will apply what you learn. Players will be matched up with others of similar skill level. We address the following areas of learning to help build a successful game: Stroke technique, strategy, fitness/movement, and mental awareness/attitude.     Tennis - Fitness

    To improve fitness as related to good tennis technique and competitive play. You will learn warm-up exercises done prior to playing, fitness drills to improve movement, balance, quickness, flexibility, strength, endurance, and relaxation. Exercises and drills are similar to those utilized by top tennis players and will be adapted for your level of fitness and tennis skill. Ron includes elements of yoga, Pilates, tai chi, and dance in the class. Good tennis technique naturally improves fitness when applied in the right intensity for each person. After working out and playing tennis we will finish with cool down/recovery/stretch exercises. Bring your own racquet. Any skill/fitness level is welcome.

    Volleyball Drop-In

    The Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department Drop-In programs allow participants the opportunity to play in an informal setting and to meet others of similar sporting interest. Groups are welcomed to attend. Play is held each Tuesday & Thursday evening during the session.

    Participants should contact the Recreation and Parks Department (918-7364) for specific scheduling information. Ages are 16 & Up, but participants 15 & Under may attend if accompanied by an adult.

    Registration is taken on site each night.

    Big & Little Disc Golf Tournament

    Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends - Sign up to play disc golf with your favorite “little” person! Kick start the summer by participating in this fun family event! No experience necessary and the Recreation and Parks Department has discs you can use. This new event offers excitement, fun, and prizes for everyone! Tournament will consist of 9 or 18 holes in a “scramble” format (Younger age divisions play 9 holes). Kids pair up with your favorite “Big” and come out for some fun!     NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

    The NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition allows participants to showcase their talents in punting, passing and placekicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. The top finishers of each age group will advance to a Section competition. The top five scores from the pool of Sectional champions will advance to the Team Championship held at Bank of America Stadium, Home of the Carolina Panthers.

    Much of the vitality of life in Carrboro is due to the active involvement of citizens in the community. Volunteers of all ages regularly share their talents, skills, and ideas by planning or assisting with large events, serving on town advisory boards, or coaching a youth sports team. While some activities require the contribution of many hours others call for only a few hours of time. Not only can you share your talents, you can have fun, make new friends and discover more about your town.
